Mais voilà, c'est un très bon capitaliste. Il se dit quand même, vu le succès, qu'il y a là de quoi remplir le tiroir caisse. Il confie ce titre à un second couteau, Edwin Starr.
Il se classe en tête des charts aux États-Unis et au Canada, Edwin Starr obtient une nomination pour le Grammy Award de la meilleure prestation vocale R&B masculine en 1971
Alors que la jeunesse américaine manifeste en fait pour l'arrêt des hostilités et démontre jour après jour l'inutilité du conflit, "War" devient une caisse de résonance.
